"A classic assemblage of 70% Grenache and 15% Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape offers notes of ripe cherries and brown sugar on the nose. Aged mainly in wooden vats, but with smaller amounts in foudre, tank and used barrels, it's full-bodied and silky textured, fine and elegant, not overly rich or concentrated, just an easy-drinking, delicious wine for early consumption." 91 points

"Charbonnière's performance this year (2017) was remarkable, all the more so because I didn't visit the estate, so the wines were all tasted blind. The regular cuvée, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape, is a stunning blend of 70% Grenache and 15% each Mourvèdre and Syrah. Cherries, raspberries and orange zest mark the nose, while the full-bodied palate is silky-textured and concentrated, adding layers of dried spices and complex, tea-like notes. Warm and generous, it may not be the longest-lived vintage, but it will offer immense pleasure over the next decade or so. Drink Date 2019 - 2028" 94 points

"Features the dense, dark, ripe profile of the vintage, with a core of steeped currant, fig and boysenberry fruit, supported by a dense structure, notes of dark earth, tobacco and bitter cocoa, and a long finish that ripples with latent energy. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2023 through 2037." 94 points

"The straight Châteauneuf du Pape is a classic effort that offers up notions of blackberry, black raspberry, garrigue and leather in a medium-bodied, fresh and focused package. Made from 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre, this is classic stuff to drink over the coming 7-8 years. I continue to rave about these wines from the Maret family, and both these 2012s and 2013 are worth seeking out. I was especially impressed with their 2013s, as they have more concentration and higher quality tannins than most in the vintage. I’m sure these will drink nicely on release, but they should also evolve gracefully." 90 points

"The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is both a strong effort and a terrific value. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by lots of loamy soil, underbrush, forest floor, kirsch, licorice and roasted meat characteristics. Full-bodied and layered, the wine builds incrementally in the mouth exhibiting considerable purity, length and texture. It should drink nicely for 10-15 years.
One of my favorite estates in the southern Rhone, Domaine de la Charbonniere is run with great passion and enthusiasm by Michel Maret, and more recently, by his two daughters. The Marets own nearly 44 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape, and one of their most under-valued and under-rated wines is their sensational Vacqueyras. They consistently produce four cuvees of Chateauneuf du Pape that are traditionally made, even though a handful of the wines spend time in small oak casks (although new oak is generally shunned at this estate). Other than one large parcel in the northwest sector of the appellation, Maret’s biggest holdings are all in the eastern area of Chateauneuf du Pape. The 2011s are all delicious, fruit-forward, surprisingly well-endowed efforts. As I reported last year, the 2010s are superb, and consumers can’t go wrong with any of these wines, which range from outstanding to prodigious in the case of the Hautes Brusquieres and the Cuvee Vieilles Vignes." 91 point

“Fresh and open, exhibiting pure cherry paste, plum sauce and linzer torte flavors, lined with subtle anise and singed balsam notes. A shiso leaf accent hangs on the finish.” 91 Point

Domaine de la Charbonnière råder over 17,5 ha. Chateauneuf du Pape og derudover 4 ha. AOC Vacqueyras. Der fremstilles ikke mindre end 4 udgaver af rød Chateauneuf du Pape samt en hvid Chateauneuf du Pape og normalt kun 1 Vacqueyras.
