Domaine Grand Nicolet, Cotes du Rhone Villages, Rhone, Frankrig
Beskrivelse:
Tim Vollerslev i BT

"Made from 100% old vine Grenache, the 2008 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau Vieilles Vignes may compete with its brilliant 2007 counterpart. Its dense inky/purple color is followed by a big, rich nose of chocolate, graphite, black currants, spring flowers, and scorched earth. With full body, sweet tannins, and stunning concentration for a 2008, it should drink well for up to a decade.
Another superb estate in the Cotes du Rhone village of Rasteau, Domaine Grand Nicolet has the seemingly -can-t miss making great wines- Philippe Cambie as its consultant. Shrewd consumers seeking super high quality at fair prices should check out these offerings. Drink: 2009-2019"

"Chocolate, creme de cassis, graphite, and pen ink characteristics can be found in the inky/purple-colored 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau Vieilles Vignes. Old vine Grenache dominates this full-bodied, powerful, tannic, brawny, muscular wine. Think of it as a nose tackle in professional football, it's that big. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020+.
These fairly priced as well as exceptionally high quality efforts are made under the guidance of winemaking consultant Philippe Cambie, who has quickly brought Domaine Grand Nicolet to the top."

Robert Parker i The Wine Advocate 169 Feb 2007
"One of the up-and-coming appellations to be reckoned with is Rasteau, and this particular estate, utilizing the services of the undeniably talented Philippe Cambie, has turned out a real blockbuster that sells for a song, the 2004 Rasteau. This blend of 75% Grenache from 50-year-old vines, and the rest Syrah and Carignan, is vinified and aged in concrete tanks and bottle unfined and unfiltered. It has a superb dark ruby/purple color with notes of melted chocolate, espresso, scorched earth, and oodles of black cherry and berry fruits. The wine is deep, full-bodied, opulently textured, and extremely pure and long. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Kudos to proprietor Jean-Pierre Bertrand for pushing the envelope on this estate. Drink 2007-2014."

The first hectare of vines has been planted in 1875.
The cellar was built on the estate in 1926; first private cellar of the appellation at the time!
From 1930, the production of cereals is progressively dismissed and Joseph Nicolet started developping the vineyard and planted some Grenache noir and Carignan.
That was the start of the Domaine Grand Nicolet !
In 1999, Jean Pierre Bertrand, passionate by the viticulture started running the estate on his own, and started bottling his best wines.
The viticulture and vinification are very traditional, Jean-Pierre started step by step to give up any chemical treatment and to plough the entire vineyard all year round.
Here, the ancestral and traditional methods are permanently facing modern viticulture so as to produce strong character and authentic wines and yet contemporary of their time.
