Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 2009

Domaine de la Charbonnière, Chateaneauf du Pape, Rhone, Frankrig

Beskrivelse:

Domaine de la Charbonnière råder over 17,5 ha. Chateauneuf du Pape og derudover 4 ha. AOC Vacqueyras.

Robert Parker i The Wine Advocate 197 Oct 2011
"From their oldest vines comes the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, composed of 95% Grenache and the rest Mourvedre. This emerges from the high plateau of La Crau in the eastern part of the appellation, and the vines are 85+ years of age. Huge, sandy, underbrush notes, with pepper, black cherry jam and hints of strawberries and spice box are all present in this fragrant, full-bodied wine, which is rich, savory and irresistible already. It should drink well for at least a decade or more.

Michel Maret’s estate of 45+ acres is primarily in the eastern and northern sectors of the appellation, with large holdings in La Crau and the well-known lieu-dit of Brusquieres. His daughters, Caroline and Veronique, seem to be taking over more and more of the responsibilities and add to the remarkable number of women who seem to be in positions of influence and control in Chateauneuf du Pape. There are always four cuvees in the top vintages, but the Marets have added a fifth cuvee, dominated by Mourvedre with the balance Grenache, called L’Envol. This wine is a completely different take on Chateauneuf du Pape, one I am seeing appear more frequently in my tastings. The 2009s all performed better out of bottle than they did last year. These are classic, traditional styles of Chateauneuf du Pape. As insiders know, the finest value from the Maret family is their Vacqueyras made from the 10 acres they own in that appellation."

Decanter
"A spicy, inviting bouquet. There's some syrah - decant to break it out. Very smooth and attractive tannins on this lovely, gentle and supple style. Very long finish. It's a fireside wine. Will give pleasure. Drink: 2012-2020."

Wine Spectator
"Juicy and nicely wound, with a terrific core of cassis and blackberry fruit laced with dark licorice snap and roasted alder wood notes. The long finish is fruit-coated, but with well-embedded minerality. Best from 2012 through 2022. –JM"

Om tidligere årgagne.

Robert Parker i The Wine Advocate 185 Oct 2009
"My notes on the dense ruby/purple-colored 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes (95% Grenache and 5% Mourvedre from 80-year-old vines) begin with the words "serious stuff." Deep, rich, and full-bodied with abundant notes of forest floor, truffles, earth, kirsch, raspberries, and black currants, this powerful, layered, multidimensional, long, ageworthy wine should drink well between 2012-2028.
The Maret family runs this impeccably managed estate that has nearly 45 acres of vineyards, primarily in the northeast sector of the appellation. They also have a large holding on the high plateau in the northern tier of Chateauneuf du Pape from which they produce their superb Les Hautes Brusquieres from a lieux-dit of the same name. Only two 2008s were made. All of the 2007s performed better out of bottle than they did last year.
Drink 2012-2028."

Wine Spectator
"A round, fresh style, with mouthwatering floral, red licorice, red cherry and plum notes all wrapped up by nice racy acidity. Pure and driven on the finish, with a lingering hint of roasted apple wood. Best from 2010 through 2024. 750 cases made. -JM "
